Position Summary

Under the Field Maintenance Supervisor, the worker maintains landscaped areas and the village area. The worker also does general maintenance on roads, Tribal facilities, buildings, and equipment. Other duties include caring for the bison herd, poultry, fencing, and Community Garden. The worker may also support Tribal activities and prepare cultural and village areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plant, cultivate, weed, mow, trim, irrigate, fertilize, prune, and spray landscaped areas.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair power equipment.
  • Maintain existing fences and install new fences as needed.
  • Install, operate, maintain, and repair irrigation systems.
  • Install landscape systems.
  • Clean grounds and remove litter and debris.
  • Refinish paved surfaces and cut weeds.
  • Sweep walkways, shovel snow, and apply ice melt.
  • Care for and maintain supplies and equipment.
  • Clean up and make repairs after extreme weather.
  • Prepare areas before facility workforce shifts.
  • Use hand and power tools for basic building construction and repairs.
  • Maintain and repair power tools and equipment.
  • Manage the bison range and check animal health and range conditions.
  • Conduct pasture rotations and maintain barns and property.
  • Haul and maintain hay bale inventory.
  • Assist with weaning, vaccinations, and butchering when needed.
  • Haul bales for community farmers and maintain the Bale Wagon.
  • Farm community fields and orchards.
  • Plant, harvest, irrigate, cultivate, control weeds, mow, fertilize, spray, prune, and collect seeds.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair a small greenhouse.
  • Provide customer service when distributing Pueblo of Sandia resources and harvested produce.
  • Maintain and repair boundary, right-of-way, and project fences.
  • Clean buildings and grounds and remove trash.
  • Follow Pueblo of Sandia policies and community policies.
  • Haul equipment, furniture, materials, or other items as directed.
  • Complete village cleanup or preparation as assigned.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance according to the assigned schedule.

  • Ability to operate and maintain small landscaping, gardening, and farming equipment.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools for construction and repairs.
  • Ability to make basic mechanical, plumbing, and electrical repairs.
  • Ability to read construction plans and specifications.
  • Ability to maintain equipment and supply inventory.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to use required personal protective equipment.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma, GED certification, or equivalent.
  • Ability to fit, test, and use a respiratory mask for protection from harmful vapors and particulates.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience.

Relevant work experience or education may replace the required education or work experience.

License and Certifications

  • Must have and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver’s License.
  • Must not have a DUI conviction within three years before the hire date.
  • Must pass a strict background and character investigation.
  • Must complete pre-employment and random drug screening.
  • May need to obtain and maintain other licenses or certifications required by management.

Physical Requirements

The job requires balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, finger dexterity, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, seeing, walking, sitting, standing, stooping, and talking. Lifting, pulling, and pushing may involve loads of up to 50 lbs. The work requires walking across different indoor and outdoor surfaces.
