Engineering Technician Job in Qatar: This role involves maintaining hotel electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, boiler, fire safety, and other engineering systems. The technician will handle maintenance requests, preventive maintenance, emergencies, safety checks, records, and daily engineering tasks. The role also includes working with different hotel departments, supporting and training other team members, and keeping equipment and facilities safe and efficient. Candidates need a high school qualification or equivalent vocational training and 2 years of experience in a similar role.

About the Job

Understand and operate advanced electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and boiler systems. Make sure the following areas are maintained:

Guest Rooms and Public Areas

  • Plunge toilets and unclog drains.
  • Repair all types of hardware, plumbing, and electrical equipment.
  • Repair items such as lamps, air conditioners, and cosmetic items.

Tools

  • Clean, lubricate, protect, and maintain all tools and equipment in the hotel.
  • Make sure all tools used are returned to the shop and stored safely in the proper storage area.
  • Protect and maintain the assigned tool pouch and its tools as directed by engineering management.

Fire Alarm and Life Safety System

  • Monitor the systems as needed.
  • Be fully informed about how the systems operate.
  • Handle emergencies involving these systems.
  • Have working knowledge of fire sprinkler and emergency power systems.
  • Act quickly when there is a pre-warning or fire alarm.
  • Go to the exact location and check the situation.
  • Report the situation to the immediate supervisor at once.

Energy Conservation

  • Observe and analyze energy and utility use in the hotel and on the grounds.
  • Look for ways to save energy.
  • Report any ideas to the engineering department.

Emergencies

  • Be available for any emergencies.
  • Act in an engineering capacity to protect guests and associates.
  • Protect the building and its systems during emergencies.
  • Act as quickly and responsibly as possible to return the building to normal operation.
  • Inform the relevant people about any emergencies.

Accident Prevention and Safety

  • Be aware of all existing departmental Job Safety Analysis.
  • Work in a way that prevents accidents.
  • Help create a safe work environment for others.
  • Look for conditions that may endanger hotel associates or guests.
  • Take immediate action to correct any hazardous conditions found.

Records

  • Read, log, track, and interpret readings from meters, gauges, and other measuring units.
  • Keep a detailed log of each day’s activities and problems.
  • Make sure this information is passed on to other shifts.
  • Take electric, water, and LPG meter readings for night shift duty.
  • Take swimming pool readings three times a day.

Maintenance and Hotel Facilities

  • Attend to maintenance requests issued by the concerned department.
  • Carry out the Preventive Maintenance Program as scheduled.
  • Follow the proper shift takeover and handover procedures.
  • Maintain hotel facilities and related equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Read, learn, understand, and refer to the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or Assistant Chief Engineer.

  • Act as a link between Front Office, Housekeeping, Security, Health Club, Kitchen, and other hotel departments.
  • Attend the daily assignment sheet given by the immediate supervisor.
  • Keep accurate completion and task records in the project files.
  • Keep work areas clean and well organized.
  • Help maintain the effective and efficient operation of the hotel as directed or needed.
  • Complete all assigned work in a safe and professional manner.
  • Communicate with the immediate supervisor and provide feedback. Make sure all needed materials, tools, and supplies are available or on order.
  • Follow up on items that may be on back order.
  • Help train new hires, on-the-job trainees, and cross-trainees.
  • Provide training and technical advice to other engineers when needed or requested.
  • Set an example of continuous self-development.

General

  • Communicate effectively with all other departments.
  • Work as an independent mechanic by analyzing problems, identifying actions, and using available resources to provide high-quality solutions.
  • Attend meetings, training sessions, and any other required meetings or training sessions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service delivery and product offerings to meet and exceed client expectations.
  • Make sure safe work practices are followed at all times.
  • Report any OHS concerns immediately to the direct manager or HR Manager.
  • Maintain working knowledge of all federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

Responsible Business

  • Carry out repairs and maintenance work as required.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and overhauling as required.
  • Keep M&E plant and equipment in excellent working condition.
  • Complete assigned projects within the designated timeframes.
  • Achieve zero injury/accident by following safety procedures without compromise.
  • Maintain guest satisfaction feedback.
  • Maintain an efficient communication platform at all times.
  • Maintain a professional and organized work environment.

What We Need From You

Personal Characteristics

Education

  • High school graduate or any equivalent vocational training certificate.

Experience

  • 2 years of previous experience in a similar role.

Technical Skills

  • Understand and operate advanced electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and boiler systems.
  • Ability to read and understand test equipment, measuring devices, and safety manuals.
  • Read and understand blueprints, schematic drawings, and technical parts breakdowns.
  • Competent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Communicate with different types of people to understand what they want and provide them with information.
  • Knowledge of all emergency procedures, including but not limited to fire response, emergency medical procedures, bomb threat plans, water leak emergency procedures, gas leak procedures, electrical failure procedures, and elevator procedures.
