Hotel Cleanliness Experts are skilled in many housekeeping tasks. They are responsible for keeping the whole hotel clean and well presented. They can move around their work area and do what needs to be done.

Their duties may include:

  • Delivering guest requests.
  • Stocking carts.
  • Cleaning guest rooms.
  • Cleaning public spaces.
  • Doing other similar housekeeping tasks.

The Hotel Cleanliness Expert helps make sure that hotel spaces create a great guest experience.

No matter what position you have, some things are important for success. These include keeping the workplace safe, following company policies and procedures, keeping information private, meeting quality standards, and keeping your uniform, personal appearance, and communication professional.

Doing these tasks well, along with other reasonable duties as requested, is important for Hotel Cleanliness Experts. The goal is to provide good service to guests and support the business each time.

Critical Tasks

Guest Relations

  • Welcome and acknowledge every guest with a smile, eye contact, and a friendly verbal greeting. Use the guest’s name when possible.
  • Anticipate and meet guest service needs. Ask questions to better understand their needs. Watch and listen to guest preferences and act on them when possible.
  • Assist other employees to ensure proper coverage and prompt guest service.
  • Listen carefully and respond positively to guest questions, concerns, and requests. Use the brand or property process to resolve issues, delight guests, and build trust.

Housekeeping Protocol

  • Contact Engineering, At Your Service (AYS), Delighted to Serve (DTS), or the Housekeeping office directly for urgent repairs and preventative maintenance issues.
  • Respond promptly to requests from guests, Front Desk, or At Your Service.
  • Select the right cleaning chemicals and personal protective equipment for different surfaces and cleaning tasks. Follow OSHA regulations and company standards.
  • Fill the cart with supplies, such as chemicals, rags, linens, and amenities, as needed.
  • Report room status, such as Do Not Disturb notices or discrepant rooms, to the Main Linen Room, Housekeeping manager or supervisor, or Front Desk.
  • Follow quality assurance expectations and standards.
  • Return the cart to the designated area at the end of the shift.
  • Clean and organize items in the laundry room, supply or storage closets, linen room, and uniform room.
  • Fold clean linen into the correct size by hand or with a folding machine.
  • Place caution signs, such as wet floor signs, when needed to limit traffic.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as requested.

Guest Rooms, Villas, and Suites

  • Check that all appliances are in the room and working properly, such as hair dryers, TVs, remotes, and microwaves.
  • Clean bathrooms, including bathtubs, hot tubs, showers, toilets, floors, sinks, and mirrors.
  • Dust, polish, and remove marks from walls and furnishings, including appliances, furniture, ice buckets, honor bars, baseboards, ledges, and entrance doors.
  • Enter guest rooms by following access procedures. Knock three times, say “Housekeeping,” and make sure the room is vacant before entering.
  • Limit access to guest rooms during cleaning by following department procedures.
  • Remove trash, dirty linen, and room service items from rooms and balconies or patios.
  • Replace dirty linens, such as sheets and pillow cases, and terry items, such as towels and bathrobes, with clean items. Follow correct bed-making and folding standards.
  • Replace guest amenities and supplies in rooms, including toiletries, glasses, mugs, linens, towels, tissues, coffee, printed materials, and laundry bags according to standards.
  • Report missing hotel or resort property and room damage to the manager or supervisor.

Public and Employee Spaces

  • Clean public and employee restrooms and showers. Keep bathrooms stocked with enough paper goods and soap. Clean all surfaces and empty trash.
  • Clean glass, including windows and mirrors, in public and employee areas. Remove dust, spots, and smears.
  • Clean floor surfaces in public or employee spaces using the correct chemicals, supplies, and equipment. This may include mops, buffers, vacuums, wet vacuums, extractors, shampoo machines, and stain removers.
  • Dust surfaces in assigned areas. This includes furniture, fixtures, woodwork, pictures, public or house phones, fire extinguisher boxes, exit signs, and air vents.
  • Empty trash containers, ashtrays, and ash urns in public areas into the correct containers for recycling or disposal.
  • Check furniture for tears, rips, and stains. Report damage to the manager or supervisor.
  • Clean and maintain lights by wiping lamps, light fixtures, and light switches. Check that they work properly and report burnt-out bulbs.

Communication

  • Speak to guests and co-workers using clear, appropriate, and professional language.
  • Discuss work topics, activities, or problems with co-workers, supervisors, or managers quietly and privately. Avoid public areas of the property.
  • Support all co-workers and treat them with dignity and respect.

Safety and Security

  • Complete the required safety training and certifications needed to perform work tasks.
  • Follow company and department safety and security policies and procedures. Help keep the workplace clean, safe, and secure.
  • Report work-related accidents or other injuries to the manager or supervisor immediately.
  • Identify and correct unsafe work procedures or conditions. Report them to management and security or safety staff when needed.
  • Follow Hazardous Material Management Program procedures for handling and disposing of chemicals, fertilizer, pesticides, blood-borne pathogens, and other materials. Use Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Follow all local training requirements and guidance.
  • Follow property procedures for emergency situations, such as evacuations, medical emergencies, and natural disasters.
  • Stay aware of undesirable persons on the property.
  • Support all co-workers and treat them with dignity and respect.

Policies and Procedures

  • Keep uniforms, name tags, and personal appearance clean, hygienic, and professional. Follow company policies and procedures.
  • Follow company and department policies and procedures.
  • Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors.
  • Protect company tools, equipment, machines, and other assets according to company policies and procedures.
  • Protect the privacy and security of guests and co-workers.
