Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Farm Manager to plan and implement farming operations.
- Manage livestock activities, including sheep, beef cattle, and young stock.
- Supervise and coordinate the workload of Shepherds and farm staff.
- Assist in pasture management and feed planning to optimize farm productivity.
- Monitor and maintain animal health and welfare standards.
- Manage feed budgets and ensure efficient use of available resources.
- Maintain accurate stock data records and reports using digital systems such as FarmIQ.
- Support farm safety practices and ensure proper livestock handling.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of operational processes and farm performance.
Requirements
- Experience in a similar stock management or senior shepherd role.
- Ability to manage responsibilities and make day-to-day operational decisions.
- A current New Zealand driver’s licence.
- Experience working with livestock and understanding animal health standards.
- Ability to manage time effectively and work independently.
- Practical experience with digital farm management tools and technologies.
- Strong knowledge of livestock management and pasture operations.
