Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Farm Manager to plan and implement farming operations.
  • Manage livestock activities, including sheep, beef cattle, and young stock.
  • Supervise and coordinate the workload of Shepherds and farm staff.
  • Assist in pasture management and feed planning to optimize farm productivity.
  • Monitor and maintain animal health and welfare standards.
  • Manage feed budgets and ensure efficient use of available resources.
  • Maintain accurate stock data records and reports using digital systems such as FarmIQ.
  • Support farm safety practices and ensure proper livestock handling.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of operational processes and farm performance.

Requirements

  • Experience in a similar stock management or senior shepherd role.
  • Ability to manage responsibilities and make day-to-day operational decisions.
  • A current New Zealand driver’s licence.
  • Experience working with livestock and understanding animal health standards.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work independently.
  • Practical experience with digital farm management tools and technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of livestock management and pasture operations.
